RV Camping on the American River
The Perfect Stop on your Next Gold Country RV Adventure!
Coloma, located on Highway 49 between Auburn and Placerville, is a perfect stop-over spot for a California RV trip. If you’re going to or from Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, or the Redwoods, Coloma is a quaint historic riverside town to stay for a night. If you’re on a tour of Gold Country, you can’t pass us up – Coloma is the town where the Gold Rush began, when James Marshall discovered gold at Sutter’s Mill in 1848. This historic site at Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park is just a five-minute walk from the American River Resort.
RV Heaven at the American River Resort
American River Resort has 15 unique RV spaces with full hookups with 30 amp power, water, and sewage. An additional 10 RV sites are available with power and water. We have a dump station located at the exit so you’re welcome to dump your tanks on the way out! Each RV Site comes with additional space for tents, as well as a private fire ring and picnic table. We are located in the historic town of Coloma and along the beautiful South Fork of the American River. American River Resort offers adventure and relaxation in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Foothills.
Campers love our RV sites because they are private and unique! The Resort is not a typical RV Park where RVs and Trailers are lined up a few feet away from each other. The RV sites vary in size and layout and are tucked into and between groves of oak trees. The sites are located on a rise above the American River and there is a good mix of pull-forward, back-in and drive-through sites. If you are not entirely comfortable backing into your spot, our staff are happy to help spot you and get set up in your site.
RV Clubs and Groups
RV clubs and large groups love camping at the Resort. We can easily accommodate and cater to large RV clubs. In addition to our 28 designated RV sites, we have a dozen campsites that can be used for dry RV camping. Our close proximity to areas of Adventure Activities, Gold Rush History, and Wine Tasting make the Resort a perfect basecamp for an RV club outing. We are only a 20-minute drive from Apple Hill, made famous for its Fall Apple season and family activities. Camp with us and we can even arrange shuttles for your groups to various attractions and local points of interest. We can even provide all of your meals during your stay! We have a commercial kitchen with a chef on staff providing meals for our campers on a daily basis. Contact us and let us take care of all your group needs.
Amenities
RV Campers have access to all of the amenities, including an in-ground swimming pool, catch and release fishing pond, play areas, river access areas, swimming holes, and river beach. You are also welcome to use any of our two modern restrooms and shower blocks. Our main shower and restroom block was remodeled in 2017 and has upgraded, deluxe features, and free hot showers. Our RV sites are located within a few minutes’ walk to our restroom and shower facilities.
Our Sites
Perfect for a Club outing, RV Sites 1 through 10 are located just above the river level and have mix-use camping and RV sites. Several of these sites have fantastic views of the river and the world-famous Troublemaker Rapid. These sites are ideal for small trailers and Class B and Class C RVs. These sites are perfect for large groups or RV clubs wanting a beautiful camping location closer together.
RV Sites 41 and 66 are our biggest RV sites and can easily accommodate large 5th wheels or Class A motorhomes. Sites 41 and 66 are pull-through sites. Both sites can easily accommodate multiple tents in addition to a 5th wheel or RV making it perfect for a combination RV and Tent Camping site.
RV Sites 46, 47, and 74 are large and centrally located as well as being close to all the amenities. All three of these sites are either pull-forward with an RV or back-in with a trailer. Site 46 has a river view towards the back of the site, while 47 and 74 overlook the pond. Each of these sites are large enough to accommodate a tent or two in case you have a group with tent campers.
RV Sites 62, 63, 64, 68, and 73 are located on the inclined Gold Nugget Road and are all pull-forward or back-in with trailer type sites. These sites do vary in size and can accommodate 25′ RVs and trailers that are 20′ or shorter. Some of the sites do require you to be comfortable backing down and in, but do remember our staff are happy to help if you are not comfortable backing in.
RV Sites 71, 65, and 45 are the smallest RV sites on the property and can accommodate 20′ RVs and shorter trailers. Both are shaded and have excellent central locations.
