ARR recommends hikes and programs sponsored by American River Conservancy.
Upcoming American River Conservancy Outings
When you stay at ARR there are plenty of local outings to take advantage of. American River Conservancy sponsors some good ones which we recommend to our guests.
Located just up the road from us, the American River Nature Center houses a hands-on Nature Center for all ages and the American River Conservancy, a non-profit land trust. Education programs are available for schools, children, and the general public year-around.
If you’re planning a cabin or RV stay in March, below are some ARC events you might enjoy.
For exact meeting location and to sign up: 530-621-1224 and julie@arconservancy.org.
March 8
Olmstead Loop Trail hike. A 8.5-mile hike through beautiful blue oak woodlands, wildflowers and vernal pools. At about 3 1/2 mi., the trail winds down through a pine forest to Knickerbocker Creek. After a short uphill, the trail levels out again, with more views. Age 12+ welcome. Suggested donation: $5/members, $10/non-members.
March 8 & 16
Historical tour led by ARC docents, takes the group on a tour of a ranch in the Gold Hill area with an interesting mosaic of springs, streams, wetlands, blue and live oak forest, sweeping vistas, and prime agricultural soil. Ranch ponds and the small lake are a draw for migratory waterfowl, and other wildlife. Along with its beauty, learn about the rich history of the Wakamatsu Tea and Silk Farm, the first Japanese Colony site established in America in 1869. Mature children 12+ welcome. Suggested donation: $5/members, $10/non-members.
March 15
Salmon Falls hike. Alissa Fogg from Point Blue Conservation Science (formerly PRBO) will share her knowledge of bird species and foothill habitat as she leads hikers through the rolling hills and oak woodland landscape at the Salmon Falls Ranch, from 9-1pm. The 757-acre property was acquired in 2012 by the American River Conservancy, and operates as a working cattle ranch. ARC is currently fundraising and planning to incorporate access for the general public. Ages 10+ welcome. 4-miles with 300 ft. elev. change. Steady rain cancels. Suggested donation: $10.
