Large Group Camping Sites along the American River

Group Camping at American River Resort is easy, convenient, and fun!

American River Resort provides easy options for group camping. With large sites dedicated to group camping and the ability to book side-by-side regular sites, you have many options to find the perfect location based on your group’s needs. If some of your group members have RVs, prefer “glamping” or need all the comforts of home, we have options to accommodate everyone. We also have the ability to provide mixed-use camping.

We have multiple RV sites and comfortable cabins that are close to group camping sites.

We have a vast variety of groups that host their events at the Resort every year. From family reunion groups to church groups, from weddings to scout troops. There are also a lot of school groups that visit our area to learn about the California Gold Rush History. The Resort offers a beautiful natural setting for recovery groups, as well as bachelor and bachelorette parties.

Our large spaces give people lots of options and the river is always a natural draw. We regularly host groups with up to 300 campers.

Group Camping Rates are for groups of 24 or more. Group sites are subject to minimums and maximums. Due to size, some sites may require a higher minimum occupancy. No charge for up to 2 children under 3 years old in each campsite. Check-In time is 3:00 PM and Check-Out time is 12:00 PM.

Amenities

Groups have access to all of the Resort amenities, including an in-ground swimming pool, catch and release fishing pond, play areas, river access areas, swimming holes, and river beach. We also have two modern restrooms and shower blocks. Our main shower and restroom were remodeled in 2017 and has deluxe facilities and free hot showers. Our large group campsites are located close to our restroom and shower facilities for ease of access.

We also have free parking by group sites, as well as designated parking and overflow parking. Our group sites have private fire pits, as well as picnic tables to accommodate campers in the group sites. For a detailed and visual list of our campground amenities, please go to our Amenities Page.

Camping Equipment and Rentals

If any of your group members do not have camping equipment – we have the perfect solution. All of your camping equipment can be rented from us! We have 4-person dome tents all the way to large 10 person cabin tents on platforms available for rent. The best part is that all of your rentals will be set up prior to your arrival and taken down for you. Camping does not get any easier than that! Your group can definitely mix it up based on each person’s level of comfort.

Meals and Catering

We can also offer a full complement of meals for your group event. We have a commercial kitchen with a chef on staff and provide meals daily. Everything from delicious hearty pancake and egg breakfasts to delicious BBQ chicken, steak, and fish dinners, including appetizers and desserts. Large Italian pasta dinners or traditional hamburger and hot dog picnic dinners are available upon request. We regularly cook meals for hundreds of campers and can easily accommodate your group.

Meals need to be booked in advance. If you are interested in having your group meals provided by us, please call us at 530-622-6700.

You are welcome to arrange for your meals to be catered by a full-service catering company or reserve a food truck to create a fun and unique vibe. We can accommodate a food truck or catering service at your group campsite. Please coordinate these services with our reservations office in advance.

Adventures

The Resort makes for a perfect hub for your group adventure. You can book your whitewater rafting or wine tasting adventure at the same time you are booking your group’s camping trip. We offer half-day and full-day rafting trips for all group sizes, and these trips depart from the Resort daily.

We can also provide a shuttle service for a wine tasting adventure. There are over 40 wineries in El Dorado County to explore. Wine tasting is a great way to spend the day!

Or you can spend an afternoon floating down the calmer parts of the American River in a river tube. Come prepared for river tubing and don’t forget to bring your tubes and lifejackets. Check out all of the adventures that you can experience in our area.

Can I bring my Pet?

Pets are family too so don’t forget to bring your dog, cat, or pet goat! Pets are always welcome, but please keep in mind that you will be camping in a wilderness environment so for your pet’s safety as well as the safety of other guests read and abide by our Pet Rules.

What Items should we bring?

It depends on how long you plan to camp and on other variables, such as the weather and whether you prepare your own meals or eat at local food places. We provide picnic tables and fire pits, bathroom and shower facilities. You provide basically everything else, including toiletries, towels, etc., for the bathrooms and showers (though we do provide toilet paper). Here are printable lists of camping items suggested by REI and Coleman. Don’t forget to bring your camp games and your favorite campfire recipes.

We have a small store onsite where you can purchase firewood, ice, refreshments, beer, and wine, as well as souvenirs.
